These paintings often depict hills, mountains, sometimes water and often little white houses. Not without reason: it’s about ‘fernweh’. A longing for a place that isn’t home. The houses symbolise that for me. When I visited Scotland the landscapes were filled with white cottages and that image stuck with me. In British tradition white houses appear a lot in landscape paintings.
The work comes from deep within me. A longing for a place where life makes sense and a place to call home. It’s been a theme I’ve been working with since 2013, when I left the region I was born and grew up in. Home is something I will continue to look for. In places, in people and in experiences.
